The Shell House, Hatfield Forest, Essex, for The National Trust.
Delicate repair works were undertaken to rescue this attractive 1760's folly from the Buildings At Risk Register.
The building was underpinned with hand made brickwork set in lime mortar, and piecing in repairs undertaken to the rotted timber frame, whilst carefully protecting the decorative exterior. Damaged areas of flint work were repaired using whole and knapped flints in patterns set with shells and coloured glass in varying colours of lime mortars. |
